Seeking these tartans, please help...
Quite a while ago I found two versions of the Clan Rose tartan on the internet that I'd never seen before and really liked. I've been going nuts the last couple days trying to find those tartans. Unfortunately, when I saved the images I never noted the websites from which they came. Does anyone have any idea? Also does anyone know if these tartans are actually available in kilting weight wool? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...
This one was called (I believe) Rose Of Kilravock
This one is called Rose hunting reproduction

Custom woven perhaps? I know Matt and Barb offer having Daglish weave kilt lengths of rare tartans...

I've searched at Tartans By Air, search by color, Scotland Shop, and House of Tartan and I don't find either of those tartans.
I like that first one, but the second one looks more like a dress tartan than a hunting tartan. Don't quote me on this, but those tartans could be personal, trade, or commemorative tartans.. or they could be a product of someone incorrectly setting up a loom.
Matt would know. Oh, Matt..

The second one first, because it's easier. "Reproduction" is sometimes used more or less as a synonym for "weathered." So what you are looking at is basically the Rose hunting tartan in weathered colors. I don't know that it's readily available (Lochcarron shows is as available in my 13 oz listing, but it doesn't appear on their web site, so I'd have to call to see if it really is available or not). In any case, one could have it custom woven.
The first one, the Rose of Kilravock, is a bit more of a mystery. The STA has it in their index, but the coloration of it is more of a pure red, according to their graphic. Since I don't really know where you pulled your image from, I cannot comment on the accuracy. But the STA notes for this tartan indicate Jack Dalgety was the source for this tartan, and the dating is "pre-1985." The notes simply say: "Sample in STA Johnston Collection. No history at all. Possibly designed by the late Jack Dalgety of Forfar."
Again, this is one that won't be commonly available, but I suppose one could have it custom woven.

Thanks for the help. Matt, I've seen the Rose of Kilravock tartan on the STA site. As you said, it definitely has a red background. I'm kicking myself for not taking note of where I pulled that image. It was one of the tartan finding websites that was discussed on this forum as being particularly extensive. I love the tartan because it has the same pattern as the standard modern Rose tartan, but with a peat grean background replacing the red background. It reminds me of the Ardbeg tweed (which is not available anymore) so I was really hoping to be able to order it for my next kilt. I'll keep searching and hope I run across it again.

I'll let you know if I find out anything, Finn. I'm starting to think that the image was put on one of the tartan finder websites as a mistake and has since been corrected. I like it enough that I would consider having it custom woven. Rose is my clan affiliation so I have a special interest in this tartan. I looks a bit like those tartans that are intended to emulate old cloth that has been burried in a peat bog and then dug up.

They're both beautiful.
I've really been grooving on the browns & earth tones lately.
Thanks!
