All You Need is Love-The Great XMTS Beatles Thread

A few of the Moderators were chatting about music and we discovered that one of our number doesn't like The Beatles!* (It was also determined that a couple of the "Mod Squad" LOVE the Beatles enough to make up the difference).

So I thought it would be fun for fans of the original Fab Four here on X Marks the Scot to list:

    (1) Favorite Beatles Album
    (2) Favorite Beatles Song
    (3) Favorite Beatle

    and (optional)

    (4) Favorite Beatles Memory.

In addition I have put up a poll for the favorite Beatle period.

    Cheers

    Jamie

You need an option "ALL" LOL. Seriously, they were great throughout all periods of their music. I simply cannot pick just one. I love the Sgt. Pepper's, however, but the White Album was phenomenal as well (save Revolution No. 9). And yet, there is Abbey Road, which is another gem. All are from different periods and exceptionally good. Also, I am not sure if you can cite Yellow Submarine as a true Album since it was composed mainly of already existing music of theirs, except for a couple songs like "Hey Bulldog" and "All Together Now".

Where to start... Put me in the Rubber Soul to Revolver camp though ANY Beatles song is worth a listen. In fact I have written instructions that "In my life" and "Blackbird" are to be played at my funeral along with "Amazing Grace." Lets hope that's in the distant future shall we?

Favorite song/album - impossible, depends too much on my mood.
Favorite Beatle - Paul, especially during his Scottish "exile."

    Favorite Memory...

Sitting on the floor beside my sister in front of our fuzzy black and white TV watching the first Beatles performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. My parents an grandparents sat on the couch behind us tisking and tutting and clucking their obvious disapproval.

It was at that precise moment that I understood that I was different from my parents and that my life would never be the same again.

LOL! I will put myself out there for the abuse and say that I don't really care for the Beatles either. I respect them as musicians but I just don't listen to their music.

I think to be fair that you should add to you poll the option that people don't like them. Just out of curiosity to see whether or not I stand alone on this one.

That being said though, you are looking for favorite Beatle memories so if you don't want people saying negative things I understand. I personally have nothing negative to say about them, just not my cup of tea.

I LOVE the entire Beatles catalog (except Revolution #9), so it's impossible to for me to select just one favorite. This is as much as I could narrow down my answers.

Ya can't separate them; it's not the Beatles without any one of them; they're an integral unit!

(Though if forced, I will admit to a slight preference for Paul's Pop sensibilities, though I love John's Rock & Roll attitude...)

There are many, but a favorite is the many times I sang "Goodnight" as a lullaby to sing my son to sleep when he was a wee lad.

I have favorites from all of the above. I can't vote for just one.

I certainly don't dislike the Beatles, but I can't say that I'm Gaa-Gaa over them either. They were extremely talented and wrote some great songs. I can't really pick any period because I'm not that versed on what was done when (hey, I grew up in the country, you know Johnny, Waylon, and Willie).

I do have a favorite Beatle though. Ringo all the way!

    Yes, it's very difficult indeed.

The Beatles, their music with George Martin, "the fifth Beatle", the lyrics... everything just fitted in so naturally into my life as I grew up.

So it's hard to make a "top ten favourite" just with numbers, without explaining why .

Last year, I spent a whole evening talking about what the Beatles were for me : So it took about 4 hours and a bottle of Jura.

I'm not sure I can reproduce that here, just like that.

I sure enjoy reading the posts though.

    Good idea, Monsieur Panache.

    Best,

    Robert

I should answer my own thread I guess

    (1) Favorite Beatles Album - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

This album was played a lot in our house when we were growing up.

    (2) Favorite Beatles Song - "In my life" Just a lovely song

Runners Up: "Back in the USSR", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "Mr. Kite", "Penny Lane" , and "O bla Di o bla da"

    (3) Favorite Beatle -Ringo

As a child there was always some funny self deprecating approachable quality to him that made him seem like someone you would like to meet. I really enjoy his "Sentimental Journey" album as well.

    (4) Favorite Beatles Memory - Singing and dancing to "Mr Kite" as a young child. Singing Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da with my daughter as an adult

    (5) Bonus Question! Favorite Beatles Cover - Siouxie and the Banshees "Dear Prudence"

And Robert, I'm not sure if the Beatles are my favorite band but it seems to me that in my memory they provided the soundtrack of my childhood.

    Cheers

Ah, favorite album and song- I love at least one or two (to most) of the songs off of each and every album they released LOL.

Favorite Beatle - Paul ::swoon - thud::

Memories - Hard, since they sang the soundtrack to my childhood and coming of age. Probably sitting around a campfire at Girl Scout camp learning to play guitar from one of the older girls who was a TOTAL fangirl. She knew all the lyrics and most of the guitar riffs; I was IMPRESSED!
