How exactly did the long tail of the uniform eliminate the need for a sporran (unless that tail hid cargo style pockets?). I just do not see a day uniform coat jacket holding the necessary pocket space to eliminate the need for a sporran of any considerable size. Sporrans are simply too utilitarian in nature.

The only Kilts that have eliminated the need for a sporran, are the Utilikilts and similar Cargo / Workmans Style Kilts.
