99% of the time only 40% of a sgian dubh is visible-- that's why deep, hand carving and sterling silver embellishments on the hilt add to the cost of the knife. Rab's knives are excellent examples of quality, bench made knives, and certainly worth the few extra pounds when compared to mass produced items with cast plastic handles and chunks of coloured glass set in chrome-plated pot metal mounts.

If I had to choose between owning another two or three kilts and a Rab Gordon sgian dubh-- it would be "no contest", with my hard earned (okay, effortlessly inherited) money being spent on one of his knives.

I think it was John Arbuckle who said: "Quality remains long after price is forgotten."
