Rab Gordon Sgian Dubh
My best man (Mang1974) posted piccies of his Rab Gordon sgian dubh earlier this year, but I don't think I ever got around to it!
I finally took some pictures this evening (after photographing the new jacket). Here they are.

Rab said he wasn't even sure he was going to give it to me because the carving on the handle didn't come out as even and precise as he wanted. Personally, that's what I like the most about it! It definitely stands out from all the other sgian dubh I've seen of his.
Something I'll hold on to for a long time, to be sure.
Thanks, Rab! Looking forward to future business arrangements!
Cheers,

Och, sorry. Forgot the details...
The handle is Culloden bog oak, the fittings are hallmarked sterling silver, and the blade is Damascus steel - all the same as Matt's.

To me that looks "real" not like an inexpensive stage prop as so many do (to my eyes anyway)

Very nice. I like Rab's carving a lot. I am anxiously awaiting one of my own, with a blade that I made in it. Patience is a virtue.

Save Up And Buy One Boys--He Won't Be Making Them Forever
99% of the time only 40% of a sgian dubh is visible-- that's why deep, hand carving and sterling silver embellishments on the hilt add to the cost of the knife. Rab's knives are excellent examples of quality, bench made knives, and certainly worth the few extra pounds when compared to mass produced items with cast plastic handles and chunks of coloured glass set in chrome-plated pot metal mounts.
If I had to choose between owning another two or three kilts and a Rab Gordon sgian dubh-- it would be "no contest", with my hard earned (okay, effortlessly inherited) money being spent on one of his knives.
I think it was John Arbuckle who said: "Quality remains long after price is forgotten."

Forgive me... New here. Has he made the whole thing including the blade? That is a truly nice thing. I bet you're chuffed to bits!
