IMHO this one is too long to be worn with a kilt. You want something cut no longer than the fell, so pleats show.

If it's an overcoat, they tend to be longer than the kilt.

I'd wonder if it's loose enough to accommodate the sporran. It's a nice coat, though.

Actually, this one is NOT too long to wear with a kilt. Rev War period highland soldiers wear waistcoats of this length with their philabegs and belted plaids, and they look fine....

It would provide a conversation-starting appearance for you in 2008.I own a number of items from Townsend. Only one gets "normal" use- finger-less wool gloves. I am pleased by their quality and the speed of their shipping. Beware the authenticity of some of their accessories though.

Agreed, for someone wishing to dress in period clothes this would make a fine waistcoat.. but for proper modren dress it is too long. From reading the origional post again I think Computergeek is looking for an overcoat which would look good with a kilt. I would suggest an inverness cape.

The ones at the other end of the link are really still too long. The Inverness Cape worn with the kilt should come to just below the knee - well, that's what Thompson reckons.
