The box is made from a piece of oak. I used a 1x3 (I think), cut two pieces to the same length then routed out the pocket for the dubh. I then glued the wool tartan (type) material with wood glue.
Lesson's learned: don't use too much glue, it bleads thru the material.
I store the dubh open faced (yum) for long periods of storage time:

Storing any knife open is a good idea if the sheath is leather. Leather is naturally acidic, and there is no such thing as completely stainless steel. The best knife alloys can be weakened by long exposure to leather, so it is best to store them out of the sheath.
