An accessory for an accessory
Hi Y'all, (or should I say Howdy Y'all),
So I had an idea for a box for a precious accessory:
So here is my Front/top:

If it were a kilt, here is are pleats (Ok, hinge side):

What could it hold?

Yup,
Many of you have seen the lovely sgian dubh that I received from Howard Clark. I decided that I would make an accessory box for the fine accessory. Here is the thread: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/sgian_dubh_howard_clark-t38987/index.html
And what might be on the inside to gently cushion the dugh?
Well of course a MacPherson...

Nice box. I like the simplicity which shows off the grain beautifully!

If the blade is dull, yes. I learned a long time ago, that the dull knife is dangerous. I have carried a pocket knife (pen knife) since about age 9. My Father taught me to sharpen it properly, with the admonition about never having to force a cutting edge, so keep it sharp. My Sgian Dubh(s) are to my mind in the same category as a pocket knife. A utility tool to be used for many cutting things (tough steak at a cook-out ?) cutting the twine used to hold up a banner at the Clan tent. . . . ..You get the picture

I guess I should test drive it before I plan to wear it for extended periods...

The box is made from a piece of oak. I used a 1x3 (I think), cut two pieces to the same length then routed out the pocket for the dubh. I then glued the wool tartan (type) material with wood glue.
Lesson's learned: don't use too much glue, it bleads thru the material.
I store the dubh open faced (yum) for long periods of storage time:

Storing any knife open is a good idea if the sheath is leather. Leather is naturally acidic, and there is no such thing as completely stainless steel. The best knife alloys can be weakened by long exposure to leather, so it is best to store them out of the sheath.
