Interesting event, never heard of it before, but it looks like a spectacular evening. What is the significance of the fires? How long has this been taking place?

They were using flat bottom boats to transport the torch holder to light the fires. No wake and they were going slow. At least three boats, one starting at the begining, middle 1/3 and end. I don't know the depth of the creek but it was dammed just down river around the bend.

This is the second year of the Waterfire. Last year they called it off due to high water in the creek so this is the first year that they actually able to light the bonfires.

It is more of an economic funded project to get customers down to the Plaza shopping disctrict. It really is a nice area to eat, around and window shop.

For those of you in the New England area, they do the same thing in Providence, RI. This is where the idea originated. Kansas City just decided to mimic. It truly was a lovely evening.

It is somewhat reminiscent of the Japanese one of putting lights in small paper boats and then setting them adrift on the river.
I have always loved this type of spectacle/celebration. There is something truly fascinating about the combination of two so dissimilar things.

Wish I could have joined you. What a lovely way to spend an evening.
