    Water Fire

    Not fire water, waterfire, geez.

Ok, Water fire is put on in Kansas City. A well known artist, Barnaby Evans, puts 55 bonfires on the river. It was a beautiful night to wear my new Isle of Sky kilt. Temps in the 50's (F), a little breeze, and good friends. We ate dinner on the plaza and walked down to Brush Creek. We caught the lighting of some of the bonfires:

The bonfires were even under the overpasses and the heat was great!

Here is a picture from on top of the overpass looking west:

    And one looking east:

Music was piped in over the loud speakers and made the time surreal...

The logistics of it must be staggering...unless you can wade in that creek.

Were the bonfires made of bagpipes? THAT would've been spectacular!!!

Interesting event, never heard of it before, but it looks like a spectacular evening. What is the significance of the fires? How long has this been taking place?

They were using flat bottom boats to transport the torch holder to light the fires. No wake and they were going slow. At least three boats, one starting at the begining, middle 1/3 and end. I don't know the depth of the creek but it was dammed just down river around the bend.

This is the second year of the Waterfire. Last year they called it off due to high water in the creek so this is the first year that they actually able to light the bonfires.

It is more of an economic funded project to get customers down to the Plaza shopping disctrict. It really is a nice area to eat, around and window shop.

For those of you in the New England area, they do the same thing in Providence, RI. This is where the idea originated. Kansas City just decided to mimic. It truly was a lovely evening.

It is somewhat reminiscent of the Japanese one of putting lights in small paper boats and then setting them adrift on the river.

I have always loved this type of spectacle/celebration. There is something truly fascinating about the combination of two so dissimilar things.

Wish I could have joined you. What a lovely way to spend an evening.

    Thank you for the pictures.
