First Tank Ordered - Christmas Present
Well, my wife said to go ahead and order it. That will be your Christmas present. So, I know what it is, and it won't be here in time for Christmas, but that's perfectly ok. Am I glad that my wife is supportive!
The tartan will be the Episcopal Clergy tartan -- relatively unknown, but significant to me. (See avatar.) The tartan was designed by someone I know from seminary -- I had no idea. It was designed for clergy of the Episcopal Church in the USA, and the clergy of the Episcopal Church of Scotland in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Bishop Samuel Seabury. It's also significant to me as the parish that I serve part-time (in retirement) celebrates the Episcopal Church's Scottish heritage on Samuel Seabury Sunday each year. That's a local custom of the parish. (See Retro Red's Post: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/p...x.html?t=42858.)
The kilt will be made by Kathy Lare of Albuquerque. She has a mill lined up in Scotland to do the custom tartan. She's been great. I actually learned about Kathy before joining this board. I did premarital counseling for a couple this past summer. The groom had ordered a kilt from her for the wedding, which was this past weekend. They were my first recommendation. And then I joined this board and discovered Riverkilt's reviews and photos of her finished work.
BTW, we also ordered the fly plaid to match.
Now the waiting begins .........
I think that this is addictive.

Congratulations Spartan. I grew up in the Episcopal Church, 10 years as an acrolyte. I didn't realize there was such a thing as an Episcopal Tartan, but then again there are so many tartan nowadays. I wish you well and hope it exceeds all your expectations.

I am hooked, hopelessly, and wonderfully.
I do not have a Kathy Lare kilt yet. They are certainly first class. Very nice Christmas gift !

Congratulations on your new order, Spartan. Might I recommend solitaire on the computer to help pass the time.

Well, the Arizona Rabble (or at least the NW Phx Metro part) will look forward to see this kilt. Congratulations.

He doesn't need to -- he's read my article.
Seriously, Frank -- good on ya! Ironically, I was discussing this tartan with a priest on St. Andrew's Day at the celebration of another priest's 50th anniversary of ordination at our parish. Word is starting to spread in the Diocese of West Missouri about the Episcopal Clergy tartan.
Regards,
Todd

Very cool!

You'll be happy with it, I'm sure. What a great connection you have with the Church and Scotland.
We'll need to celebrate when you get it.
Congrats!
