Two years ago, I gave my grandmother my service medals, as she had invested a lot of time and money and had the families service medals all mounted in a display, which looks fantastic...

And in the past two years i have only been able to purchase one replica to wear, as the prices of the others are mindblowingly expensive (65 NZD for a replica, 30 for a miniature...I know, and i believe that is unmounted as well, and thats with out the shipping costs...), so hopefully in the next two months I will be able to find them at a reasonable price...or just bite the bullet and pay the price...

the jafa's don't see them anymore...apart from the ones I live and work with, oh and the lollies of course.

Hmm!? Well according to my records, the following New Zealand Regiments wore kilts in these tartans....
 BLACK WATCH

 Dunedin Highland Rifle Volunteers
 Wellington Highlanders
 Auckland Highland Rifle Volunteers
 2nd Armoured Car Regiment

 GORDON

Gordon Highlanders Canterbury Scottish Rifle Volunteers 1900
 Wanganui Highland Rifles(Volunteers)

On that basis I don't see how anyone could take offence unless they asked first whether any of your relatives had served in those particular Regiments. Given the number of them who have served regardless of where, I think it would be a sad individual indeed who objected.

As to what to wear... personally, I would err away from silver buttons on the Argyll as they look a bit too much like a wedding outfit. If the lapels are not shiny silk (which I might also err away from) I'd swap the buttons for black fabric covered ones or dark horn ones. Then you'd have a perfectly good day jacket and in a more sombre colour than many tweeds.

Above all, take pride in your family.

 Best wishes, Graham.
