Since the site is a uniform company, my guess is that the jackets are intended to be unisex.

No... They have male and female Etons, so I guess it's just the style.

I'm not sure exactly how over stuffed the padding is, but I don't think it is an easy task to re-work the shoulders.

Shoulder pads are triangular in shape, and held in place at the corners of the triangles. Should be a fairly quick (and therefore not too expensive) job to replace them. Of course ask first.

There is a seam (usually) in the lining from the armseye to the collar in the lining, and would only need a few inches taken out to get at the shoulder pads.

Most fabric stores carry a line of shoulder pads, or they can be made by the tailor shop. Again, not really a difficult task.

Changing the pad is easy, but the shoulders were designed around having the extra padding which requires extra fabric and causes a different hang. I guess take it in to the tailor and ask, but that is a thirty-five dollar jacket...

I really wish that this had come up when this spesific jacket had been suggested here on the forum.

Well I have never ever in my life worn something with shoulder pads, so I may be overdramatic. I will take a photo of it tonight so you can see them. It was a cheap jacket, and good quality for the price. Let me get it all on and I will let you, the pro's, make judgement.
