I would not say that every post on XMTS fulfills The 4 way test in any way shape or form.
However based on our basic rules and spirit of this community I would say that it is in general an excellent fit.
Looking at Wolfgore's thread (Anatomy of a XMTS Thread? ), I see two posters that didn't like it. Actually three but one saw merit in it to interest a nephew who was a Star Wars fan.
I personally agree with you that the two negative opinions expressed were not asked for or needed in this thread.
To their credit they do use "I" statements and one of the posters and Wolfgore seemed to have reached an accord.
As I mentioned before, nobody is perfect and there is always room for improvement.
Each day I get up and strive to be the gentleman I want to be.
Just like each day I get up and strive to be the husband, father, son, and friend I want to be.
The four way test is a lofty goal.
But having a high goal is a very good thing.
If we do remember to stop and question ourselves periodically, to think of others, to remember to be honest, polite, and kind, and to strive to be that better person, we may not achieve it.
But we are the better for it, and our community is the better for it.
And that is a very good thing!
Cheers
Jamie

Well, gee golly. I have been proved wrong. There is absolutely no evidence of any of the four questions being overlooked at all. The ladies and gentlemen of X marks only tell the truth, are fair to all concerned, build goodwill and friendship, and ensure everyone is benefited.
I beg forgiveness to being so uncouth to point out anything that may be in my imagination to be exclusionary, unfair, or plain rude.
So, I am going to go find my flat cap and put my head back in the sand.
Cheers!

AKG,
I am very sorry that you seem to have not understood the intent of this thread and my posts. I have tried to be as clear as I could in expressing my admiration for the the Rotary Club's four way test. I read it and saw how it relates strongly to the culture we have at X Marks the Scot.
I honestly feel that the test, and the ideals we have for our little corner of the Internet are good ones.
All I was trying to say is that this was a a very good (though admittedly high) bar to strive for.
Even if we sometimes fall short of our lofty goals (and because we are human we shall certainly do so) we are all the better and our community is all the better for the effort.
If life is a journey and not a destination shouldn't we try to always try to put our best foot forward?
Respectfully
Jamie

Indeed, lofty goals. My point was that I feel that there seems to me to be a class system here, where some folks get a pass, and others don't.
In my opinion people are jumped on by members here for asking simple questions, or even for stating their opinion if it does not match the opinion of the said "in" crowd.
I feel there is a double standard here, that is allowed to continue.
I don't agree that those questions reflect the culture of X Marks the Scot. I wish they did.

AKG,
The subject of this thread is the Rotarian "4 Way Test" and how it could be applied to posting on XMTS. It seems that you are uninterested in this subject and instead wish to use this thread to critique XMTS and the Moderating staff for being unfair to people.
Though you may not have intended to, you have demonstrated in what you have written in this thread the importance of applying the 4 way test to what we write on XMTS.
If you have a specific issue with a thread or post you should contact the Moderating staff with the specific problem by PM that we can look into the matter and try to resolve it.
That said, as the original poster of this thread, I ask that we get back to the subject of the 4 way test.
Respectfully
Jamie

Those 4 questions should be taught in school because they will only foster good relationships among all of us.
Thanks Jamie.

That's awesome. I'm a Rotarian. I bet they would like to hear that you're impressed both by their effort for the dog fountain and your approval of the 4 way test. Why not call em up, offer to do a program for one of their meetings?
Or, just drop them an email.
