I have never heard that about black hose. I think that the proper hose for formal attire are the tartan or diced hose, though, self colored hos of a darker shade might be all right.
I'm guessing that either of those would be acceptable for funeral attire. A black four-in-hand tie and white shirt probably are required. We'll see what others have to say.

I, personally, wear black kilt hose quite often. They match most of my tartans and to me look great with an Argyll jacket and a black tie no matter what the occasion. I select flashes to accent another color in the tartan.
