kilted (skirted?) daughter....

I have a 4 year old Granddaughter that wanted a kilt at the Wisconsin Highland Games. I got her a Kilt and sporran (no belt) and she spent the day telling everyone, strangers included, that she had a kilt just like her Garndpa. Now she is very much into all things Scottish.

I'd forget about the kilted skirt and go straight to the kilt. Only the kilt can give that wonderful swirl that all of us love. Then, get her into a highland dance class to really appreciate that swirl!

LOL -- she IS in Irish Step Dancing that is offered through her dance school. Unfortunately, it being the first year and not a dedicated School of Step, the costume is more of a regular dance costume then a Step dress....

But she LOVES the dance and is seemingly excelling in it. The teacher loves her...

but yeah -- I think I will go with a Stillwater youth kilt as a cheap and easy start...

Irish Step Dancing is not Highland Dancing. Their dresses don't swirl at all when you spin.

and yes - she is quite happy with her dancing... now she wants to learn belly dancing too...

Maybe a touch young for that. But I fondly remember at last year's Maryland RenFair listening to the Rogues, watching a pretty lass on the right in a green tartan dress doing traditional dancing, and an equally pretty lass on the left in what can only be described as a harem outfit and chain mail bikini, belly dancing, to the same music! Ah the Middle Ages as they should have been!
