there is a point where the alcohol content of beer gets too high to be called beer and is then called barley wine (wine made from grain not fruit). I forget the percentage but it might be 10-12 %. Most of the ones I have tried are not very tasty, too bitter for me.

But, it's really not a wine; it's still a beer.

And it can be very good - as in "make it yourself, then you can add as little hops as you like" !!
