As with Nighthawk my wife was the driving force who initially got me into a kilt.

I have to say my fiance is approving and at times, downright approving, though recently, as I've actually begun to wear one from time to time, she seems to have taken the tack that it's great in 'appropriate' situations.

These situations seem to be defined as either 'very dressy' (e.g. our upcoming wedding or an occasion where a suit would be appropriate such as an orchestra concert) or 'very casual' (e.g. a walk in the park... she understands the comfort issue there). Aside from that, she feels the only appropriate 'casual' wear circumstances are when we might be going to a real pub or perhaps bumming around the house in the summer as an alternative to shorts.

I'm sure she'll come around as she gets more accustomed to it.

My wife doesn't really understand/care, except for the fact that I have (in her opinion) way too much "kilt stuff." She does't mind me wearing kilts around the house or to formal outings, such as formal night on a cruise. She typically doesn't want me to wear a kilt to events where it woul look out of place and I'm the only one kilted. The interesting thing is that her maiden name is Lockhart and I even got a kilt in HER family's tartan and she doesn't really care for it. Oh well. Anyway, I'll continue to wear the kilt proudly when and where I can (as I am at this very moment)!

If my wife had her way she would throw out all my trousers. Well, not really, but every time I could be kilted and for some inane reason choose to wear pants she ALWAYS asks, "Why aren't you wearing a kilt?" When I'm kilted she ALWAYS comments about how lucky she is to be with a man who wears a kilt. I guess she thinks it's sexy...

My kids (daughter, 29, son, 27) think it's very cool that I wear a kilt. My friends will good-heartedly rib me on occasion, but they actually think it's hip. My band mates dig the kilts and I've gotten many positive comments from fans in between sets and after a show.

    Lucky me!!

No wife or girlfriend, but very postive reactions from the ladies when I wear my kilt. My foster son (35) finds it extremely odd, but his girlfriend likes it. (I do get peculiar stares from the Jehovah's Witnesses in the neighborhood. Funny, they never approach me with literature when I'm wearing the kilt).

Another interesting aside here- I decided that I wanted to make my own dirk and sgain dubh. My wife actually found me a source of antlers for the handles. Gods bless the woman...

My girlfriend likes the kilt. I don't think I could date a girl who doesn't like the kilt because of how often I wear it. She's Jewish, but really enjoys me embracing my culture.

If the occasion is "Scottish" then my wife enjoys seeing me dressed up and kilted, but at other times she is a little cool to it. My daughter, I am sure, thinks I am crazy, though she did deign to go out with me for a Christmas concert and dinner, I received compliments that night, but it was clearly embarassing to her- I guess becasue we drew attention. My mother loves it- but that is where most of my Scots ancestry comes from.

My wife has gone from hating it to indifferent. I don't wear a kilt nearly as often as I would like because it invairiably starts a fight between us. My daughters have adopted their mother's stance and are unfavorable. I think that none of them want the extra attention it brings. (Although I don't mind!)

Any advice for converting a wife to a kilt-lover?
