Jabot Styles?

This would be with an argyle and five button waistcoat, so... The collar is flat or laid down. I guess the doublets are cut higher at the bottom than an argyle, and that might be a factor in all of this, too.

I get confused by the doublet names, and forget how to spell them.

I don't have a photo wearing a jabot with an Argyle/Argyll (I don't know which spelling is right either) but here is one with a 6-button waistcoat and a Sheriffmuir which isn't too far away from an Argyle.

Phil didn't have a photo of the jabot worn with an Argyll jacket, but my evening doublet is close enough, showing that jabots can be worn with open jackets:

Ted, I think the perceived difference in jabot length from jacket to jacket is mostly based on the collar style. The stand-up collar on a doublet means the jabot must go up and over the collar before laying down along the front of chest -- so the jabot doesn't reach as far down. With a flat-collared, suit jacket (PC and the like), the jabot can hang down flat for its full length.

The bottom cut of the jacket may also have an effect on perceived length of jabot, but IMHO the collar cut has a much greater effect.

I hope this help clarify the effect shown in photos in this thread.
