Air Force One is whatever USAF aircraft the President is aboard. The term is actually the air traffic control call sign. When POTUS is not aboard, it is Special Air Mission (SAM).

GG - thanks for the pic - quite a smart livery, I think.
Todd - What is the navy equivalent of Air Force One?
Regards

Yes, I was referring to the 2 identical 747s that are mainly used.

There are two planes that can be Air Force One but only the plane he is one is actually called that.

Air Force One is only Air Force One when the president is on it. There are two plans that might carry that designation. I've seen both of those plans, one at a time, parked at Travis AFB in the 1990s.

The plane itself is known as SAM (Special Air Mission) -- it has always been my understanding that any USAF that POTUS is aboard is known as "Air Force One".
