Ceilidh Wear
Paul, a casual ceilidh is just that - casual. So I would say no jacket as you will not be wearing this whist dancing. Ghillie shirt is loose enough to aid ventilation. Plain sporran would be fine - no need to wear evening fur for a casual event. Casual events are good for dressing in your own style - be adventurous !
Enjoy the evening whatever you wear.

Thanks for the advice!
By the way - you're in one of the first official gathering pictures! I havent spotted anyone else from Xmarkers yet on the entire 1000 of them!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Ceilidh Dress
Thanks, Paul. I had no idea I was so famous !
Fo the ceilidh - no jacket and no tie for a casual event in Scotland. I go to lots of ceilidh in Scotland.
Whatever you wear, you will have a whale of a time.
PS Dont forget to take your camera !

It was the first picture that caught my eye! One of the first of the actual day - you must have arrived very early!
I'm not in any pics sadly
I'[m sure I'll have a great time... just aslong as I don't stand out on formality and I really shouldnt by just wearing a shirt, kilt, daysporran (looks better than the bovine one) and my tartan-cuffed kilt hose.
As I said - the outfits black-based so even if there were PCs and argylls being worn - I'm sure I wouldnt look too informal either... just a sort of "modern look" if you like!

My first instinct would be kilt, jumper and pulled up hose. However, I tend to always go overdressed thinking I can always thin things out. For Example I would wear the jacket, vest, shirt and tie and if I decide I am overdressed when I get there I can shed the tie and then the jacket and open the vest if if necessary.
