    Thumbs up Odds Bodkin!

For the heck of it I tried on my belted plaid and used the silver pin...

    It worked like a charm!

Actually it was much easier to use than the elaborate fly plaid booch.

Though my outfit is still a far cry from actual Renaissance era highland attire (isn't the belted plaid about 20 years too early for Queen Elizabeth even at the end of her reign?) I think it will do well for next year's Renaissance Faires.

    Cheers

I think the first description of a "belted plaid" was clocked in in the late 1590's(an article by Mac Newsome as I recall) and thus Lizzie the First might well have seen one. BTW it makes it barely medieval as well as far as SCA is concerned since they use pre-1600 as their criterion.

From earlier. Yes it is the Albannach Tartan in WOOL. The tartan that is available from Rocky is P/V. I am 6'1" and the five yards works perfect around my 44 hips. If I wear it about 1" above my knee cap, it works perfect as a cape and kilt. I got some really weird looks on the trolley one rainy day, but I was nice and dry.
