Out of curiosity what do they call in England to merge over on the highway? While driving in Canada (do it quite a bit) and I always get a laugh out of the "squeeze" signs.

I can't speak for England although it is probably the same as here in Scotland and would be merge or change lane.

My sister and brother-in-law and her family are living in Belgium. Their two small children are attending an English school. She likes to tell the story about the day their son came home from first grade and announced that that you should always have a rubber in case you make a mistake.

1 : suggestive or characteristic of a home
2 : being something familiar with which one is at home
    3 : unaffectedly natural : simple : not elaborate or complex <homely virtues>
4 : plain or unattractive in appearance

Number 4 is the common US meaning.

I have seen a few road signs in England which say "Merge in Turn" but they are not common, usually there is only a diagrammatic sign.

The English don't know how to merge in traffic. Here it's all about possession of road space and a 'how dare you try and get in front of me' attitude. Scotland unfortunately is not a great deal better. That's half the reason why there are so many stationary traffic jams in UK. Not so on the continent where it all seems to flow much better.

I experienced the exact same when going through Belgium, France and Germany.
I put it down to one conclusion: Western Europeans are selfish!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
