When going out and about at Christmas I have, for several years, abandoned kilts and put on my dark green robe and red cloak with the liripipe hood.
It is of course completely over the top - but when the everyone seem to be flagging - after starting Christmas on the 1st December, and the shop assistants can't be bothered with their Santa hats - just one little tot wide eyed with astonishment is worth it.
