    I have a green kilt and a saffron one, for obvious reasons, and a black one for no reason atall! I like both solid and tartan kilts equally. The quandary is that solid is more traditional if you're Irish, but also more apt to garner 'skirt' comments!

    I agree that the solid kilt is less recognizable as a kilt than one in tartan, which makes accessories like a sporran more important. IMHO the following examples of solid kilt outfits don't work too well without the sporran:

    - Justitia et fortitudo invincibilia sunt
    - An t'arm breac dearg
