Ghillies and coloured hose
There is currently a thread concerning white and off-white hose and a new thread by Rex showing boxer ghillies by Alexander MacQueen.
Now I'm liking these boxer ghillies but I don't have any white hose. How would ghillies look with coloured hose especially darker coloured ones? The toungeless look is greatly emphasized with the white hose but would be lost otherwise.

You could wear them with any coloured hose for casual wear but I would not wear them for formal attire.

I think one of the main reasons people like the white/off-white hose is that they make the dress ghillies stand out. No other colour does that as well. I do have a pair of brown ghillies that I use for being dressed during the day. I usually wear those with lovat (green or blue) hose but it is a completely different look.
I think the boxer ghillies look silly though.

I have some red and white 'ring boots' but I can't quite picture them with my Royal Stuart tartan.
I think the look would be rather difficult to get right - I thought the illustration was more how not to do it than inspirational.
You might just about get away with a casual look of hose and shirt/jersey to match with a neutral kilt and matching boots and sporran or belt - but somehow I can't see it with tartan.
Deary me - and I used to be a hippy?
