Just a quick note since you took our prices as CAD our price range is $510 - $650 USD I rounded up on conversion. This is for 10 ounce tartan up to 16 ounce rare tartans.
Note when comparing prices make sure you are comparing the same quality of tartans aka Lochcarron with Lochcarron and the same weight.
You may also want to compare the kiltmakers who do it as a hobby with the full-time professional who run it as a business.

Done! Thank you.

As stated earlier in the thread (not sure if you read it), but we wanted to focus on comparing PRICES only. It would then be up to the individual to compare other details that they think are important.

This is something individuals will have to decide. Is it better to get a kilt from a full-time professional or from someone that does it on the side or as a hobby? That is for each person to decide. I do know there are plenty of NON full-time kilt makers that do great work. There are quite a few on the list. Again, this is something each person will have to decide on.

There was a change to Heritage of Scotland. Their BEST kilt is machine sewn, not hand sewn. Thanks to those of you that helped with that.

Hi again!
May I start by repeating our thanks for all your tremendous efforts. I suspect you wish you'd never started! It's a real service to the community, which I expect will be regularly referred to...
But with great humility... could I please ask you again to look at it? I'm afraid I still feel the table is not showing a fair and valid comparison. Since the group has established that HoS kilts are not in fact hand-sewn, but you've kept them in the list (when you initially said you were comparing only fully hand-sewn) the fair comparison in our own case (and probably other vendors) would be with our PART-machined (and still substantially hand-sewn) version. That knocks another 75USD off our price listed... which is still before the XMTS discount. I know all this sounds like special pleading, but I feel it's in everyone's interests (and particularly novices who find their way here for their first purchase, and may not understand all the subtleties) to see like-for-like comparisons, as far as that's possible. Does this not make sense?
Thanks again.

Note: I agree it is up to the person buying the kilt to decide. I was simply just putting that out there for consideraton.

Thank you Brice, for putting the time into this. I am sure we all have our "favorite" kiltmakers and I'm also sure most of us have an idea of who they would have make their "when I win the lottery" kilt.
Looking over your list, and the addendums added by various members, I was amazed at the large number of kiltmakers that were out there, many of whom I had never heard of. Thank you for the education!

I believe Brice's list is for the best kilt each company makes. In the intro to the OP he wrote that this would be mostly hand-sewn but that exceptions would be noted. In the breakdown next to HoS he has duly noted that their best kilt is machine sewn while Scotweb's best is hand sewn.
Seems to me like that's in order?

I am more than willing to be corrected if I am wrong, but it is my belief that ALL machine sewn 'tank type' kilts are finished by hand sewing. This is because the lining HAS to be hand sewn as the stitching only goes through one layer.
