You may want to avoid reading this....
Back in the mid-70s when I was writing for GUNS & AMMO Magazine, I spent quite a bit of time with Elmer Keith, the doyen of handgunners, and the father of both the .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum. Elmer liked his Scotch and only drank Chivas Regal....with root beer. The scary thing was he liked his root beer warm. No ice. Not chilled. Just outta the can. Eeeeeeeew! I still shudder when I think about it!

Back in the early 70s, I was stationed at the Marine base at 29 Palms, California. Back then we didn't have the luxury of refrigerators in the barracks so I drank my Dr Pepper at room temperature (which was often in the high 70s or even low 80s (and sometimes even higher than that since the a/c didn't always work). Even after I returned to civilization I drank it at room temperature for some some years to follow.
As for Chivas Regal, I served with a major in the early 80s who thought it was the best Scotch available and he kept it in the fridge to keep it cold. He thought single malts tasted awful. Just goes to show that tastes differ - considerably.

Look at the tartan in my avatar and know how deeply it pains me to say anything negative about anything with the Mackay name.
But Whyte & Mackay? A friend gave it to me for my birthday because of the name and I can't even use that stuff to deglaze a sauté pan when I make scallops with whisky cream sauce.
Not to worry though, winter is coming and I can use it as windshield washer anti-freeze.

I think back fondly on my high school days when my friend's dad closed his tavern and gave us two cases of pints of Clan MacGregor to split up amongst ourselves...
....after that, they all moved up a notch...make that several notches...not that I want to seem ungrateful...

Sorry, no can do. You really lost me when you called it Black Label.
That dredged up nasty memories of my misspent youth and a beer brewed by Carling called Black Label and the song from the commercials.

In out late high school years if we were going to a party and wanted to be sure that nobody would steal our beer we would buy Black Label or Labatt's 50 Ale.

I like "Dalwhinnie" but it is too expensive here. For a good priced whiskey I like "tamdhu". My very fav though is "Balvenie 15". The only whiskey I avoid is the one on the restaurant menu...such high prices!
