That sounds like the perfect occasion.
Just leave the "Braveheart" face paint and Claymore at home.

OK...For the record I do not own blue face paint, a claymore, an instakilt, or the dreaded white hose. Nor would I wear a PC with a T-shirt, flip flops, any of the above mentioned items, or any kilt less than a tank (which I do own).
In the past, I have worn my kilt to much less formal events (concerts, vacation trips to Vegas, local art fairs, the pub, etc.) I ususally wear it with polo or rugby style shirts.
I also only have a casual (brown leather and squirrel fur) and a semi-dress sporran (black leather and white bovine fur), and a stag handled sgian dubh. I will have to look for a formal/dress sporran and sgian dubh to go with the PC, as I do not own either of those yet.
I know the above posts were in good fun (or at least I hope they were)...

I was loath to get a PC. I thought it was a tweek too far. And then I did and wore it to a semi formal function with a group of appreciative chums. It's a nice, stylish jacket, made to be worn with a kilt which in an appropriate setting is just the job.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. Word to the wise though, don't wear it before 18 o'clock!!

In the hierarchy of dress sporrans silver mounted hair or fur is king of the hill. Running them a close second are sporrans where the mounts (ie: cantle) are silver plated.
A notch below silver mounted sporrans are full-mask sporrans, with muskrat, badger, and wild cat leading the parade.
My advice would be to look for a used sealskin sporran with either a silver or silver plated cantle. If you shop wisely you should find either one in the $500-$1000 range. Expensive? Undoubtedly. But in the coming years they will be virtually unobtainable, and prices will shoot through the roof.
For about half the money you can buy a new muskrat sporran and, frankly, they are probably the best choice (setting aside potential collector value) as they can be worn with both day and evening wear.
As far as sgians dubh are concerned, I'd suggest searching out a quality, silver mounted antique (anything made much before 1970), as it will only appreciate in value. Modern, mass produced sgians dubh (even ones costing well over $100) just don't measure up in terms of quality or long term value.

Returned home from a short vacation, and the package was waiting for me at the post office. Picked it up yesterday afternoon, unwrapped it, and tried it on. It looks/fits great! The wife and kids think so too.

Use it for Bruns, or at one of those pre-Christmas dinners (at least we have them in Norway). Or any event that requires a more formal attire.
A Jacket like that will always shine, and look better than any other dress, suit or tuxedo in the room. I attended at a wedding this summer, and the photographer said to me after my piping: "I need a picture. I've seen some people wearing kilts at weddings, but never someone who takes it to this level. Really fantastic!"
Just be ready to get a lot of compliments!
