I got a kilt from John in about 1995, and another one about three years ago. They seem to be identical quality. I notice one slight difference in the detail of the way the stitching is done in one spot -- It looks like the new detail must be an improvement of some sort, because it looks like it would add to the difficulty (i.e., it definitely wouldn't be something you'd do to save time.)

Which is the exact opposite of my experience with Higgins; the kilt I ordered from in 1998 was of much better quality than the one I ordered in 2000. A friend of mine here in Springfield had a similar experience.

Interesting. Are there specific differences you can explain? If there are, I'll look at mine again. It could just be I don't know what to look for. Or maybe the quality has varied over time?
Mainly I was looking at the pleating and the lining.

I've sold both of the kilts in question, so I can't really provide specifics. My best friend still has both of his kilts from Higgins, so I'll ask him if he can provide any.

Never ordered a kilt from them, but the customer service on other items I have ordered from them was superb.

Good to hear mostly positive feedback, since I've just ordered an Argyll jacket from them. Their site says their jackets run small, so I ordered a size up from my normal. Hope that's enough.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

Well, I wear a 46R and ordered a 48R. It showed up on my doorstep in four days and fits like it was made to measure. No complaints from this corner of the world. It looks very nice, too. Black argyll jacket with PC cuffs and silver buttons. Should do nicely for piping gigs and formal attire.
