Review My Attire (Black Tie)

You look very sharp. Change nothing. But...having asked for a review...

I love pocket squares, on everything but black tie. A white silk or linen kerchief seems to cut the lines of the black too much for me. I do however like a boutonniere. Also, your bow tie is a little too perfect - the beauty of the bow tie is best shown with a bit of insouciance.

As a model, I always liked the way this guy did it:

Unfortunately, the St. Kilda Argyll doesn't have a buttonhole in the lapel, otherwise I'd certainly consider a boutonniere (I dislike pinning things to myself, I'm not on the way to prom ) As for the Duke, he's certainly a good role model for dress. I admit to being a bit 'hospital corners' when DRESSING. It's probably a personal failing.

Scott, I especially like the way the badger sporran matches the black and white of your shirt, tie and jacket.

Further development: After a deep dredge of my closet I located my linen pocket squares. It seems my son had stowed them away deep in one of my sweater cubbies. I have secured them and have pressed two for the occasion.

It's the look that I aspire for...I'd like a regulation doublet someday...but the Argyll Jacket is MUCH more versatile...so that will be the first purchase. I think I'd recommend green or red hose...my preference would be Argyll (#1) or Diced (#2)...but you already shared your thoughts and reasoning...and I respect that.

All that being said...you could definitely go dressed as is and you'd be one of the best dressed men in the room hands down. Well done!!

My future aspirations include a doublet as well, although I'm aiming toward a Montrose or Sheriffmuir in either claret or deep, inky blue velvet. When my tartan is woven and crafted into a kilt I'm DEFINITELY going to drop the green for Argyll hose to match. I'll be wearing a sporran quite similar to the below left, as well.

I like the look. I was always taught that the kilt pin should be worn about two inches up from the bottom of the apron and about two inches in from the "frill". I understood that its function was to hold the apron in place if windy or dancing etc. As far as PC or Argyle jacket, I wear a PC to very formal functions especially as it has a pocket in each tail which is very handy for the hip flask. My Argyle has an inside pocket and a bulge of the flask can be seen. (I don't want to share)

No worries, Mike. One of the things I really like about skunk is that it is a N. American native. Besides, once you have your Caracal sporran made you'll have a stumper for nearly EVERYONE.

If you would like a buttonhole in the lapel, a short trip to the local tailor and a few dollars will do the trick. Buttonholes are quick enough you might even have it done while you wait.

And I should say that you look great! I agree with those that have suggested flashier hose (especially with the recommendation for purple), but also think the ensemble is fantastic as is.

If I had a touch more time, I'd do the buttonhole myself. I'm booked solid until the event Sat. night. I DO need to make a trip to my tailor, however. I'm getting the 5 button waistcoat taken in a bit and having it cropped square across the bottom, turning it into a 4 button and giving it a more "Duke of Rothsay" look. I'll probably have the buttonhole done when I get the waistcoat done.
