    Shaun pretty much gave the two best pieces of advice that I was going to say.

    I've never had a kilt pin come unfastened, and I would think it would be pretty hard for that to happen. But the rubber band trick ought to solve it if it does.

    You could squeeze the clasp shut with a pair of pliers, but that permanently affixes the pin to your kilt. Go with Ron's rubber band trick.

    I often use a horse blanket pin (large looking safety pin) as a kilt pin and always make cure to apply it with the point downward.
