While the language of blazon refers to the metals or and argent, they are invariably shown as yellow and white when rendered in cloth (at least, when this is done properly).
Metallic shades do not work well in cloth, whether in the form of an armorial banner or as tartan.

Thanks for the words of caution, Mike. I meant 'gold' in the sense of a 'honey coloured yellow' as opposed to actual metallic thread (although it is intended to represent the colour of a metallic gold three pointed crown.

After seeing all 4 together, I still like the grey field with the slate blue striping.

I have to agree with ForresterModern (and a couple others). The rigid grid appearance jumps out at me. I can only imagine it being even stronger when seen in a larger swatch.

But this isn't being designed for me! Best wishes.

What do you mean by marled grey? Do you have any examples that you could post?

Marled colours generally mean a mixture of two, sometimes as one mixed coloured thread, or in a warp arrangement two different colours side by side, which when woven give the effect of "tweedy" sort of look.
The Balmoral tartan is a good example of a "marled grey"

Another example would be on diced or tartan hose, it's the sort of look where the colours mix.

Congrats on getting hitched. To bad on the "no" that would have been cool. What about getting that tartan done in tweed. I recently saw a thread here and they were getting a tartan tweed kilt. That would ad character and depth to that kilt.
