Brian,
Or anyone who would know,
Who is a good source to procure a correct sporran for the 1740s/50s? I found one, but it just doesn't look quite right to my eye from the paintings I have seen, and research I have done. Also, what books would you recommend for further research of some of the finer details of highland clothing from this era. It seems the research is tougher going in this area and period. I am use to victorian era research, which there is plenty of documentation, as well as the advantage of photos.
Hmmm the best place i know of would be....

Most of them are not cheap to say the least but they are pretty spot on. The cunningham sporran is the one i went for as its the most basic, Which is good for my garb. As for books im not sure. Your best best is to talk to other re-enactors etc. Thats what i did anyway.
