I have not heard much good about acrylic kilts, extremely flammable and pill like crazy. For hiking and the likes, I have got good use out of an 8 yard PV kilt from these folks:

It is about twice the price of the one you referenced, but I am confident it is at least twice the kilt. Mind you it is an eastern PV which seems thicker and a bit coarser than the Marton Mills PV. But it is a full 8 yard and wears much the same as a 13oz wool kilt. The colors on the Scottish National that I have are nice and don't have that phony look of some imported kilts you see.
There a few other makers of nice PV kilts USAKilts (one of our trusted sponsors) and Skye Highland Outfitters, but both are in a different class as far as construction quality and cost.
