Wood planking. At this point, I plan on covering it with elk hide, but I'm thinking of trying to get my hands on a goat hide. Depends on what price I can find one for. This is not a project I'm getting paid for, so I have to do things within a tight budget... But such is life.

Very nice!
Is the decoration embossed or carved?

Mostly carved. The small round knots between the semicircles are embossed; the rest is carved. And as a matter of fact, I'm furthuring my carpel tunnel syndrome by tooling all the knots in those semicircles!! In that picture, they're just cut into the leather, with no tooling. I'm beveling them, and I'm beveling the circles running around the outside of the design to make those circles look heavy and dark and like the ones in the original.

Well, my computer burned out last Friday. I got a new computer this Thursday, and the DSL modem burned out or was going bad. So I've replaced everything, and I've been setting it all up over the last day or so.
I had all my files backed up, so nothing was lost.
I've never heard of "chocolate covered honey combs."
Sounds good though.

Nice design Hawk. I'm diggin' it.
I was at a Tandy store looking for some buckskin for a friend of mine who(desperately) needs some new pants, possibles bags, etc. for mountain man rendvous. No luck in locating his stuff on this trip, but the lady who owns the shop gave me a heads up that goatskins will be on sale mid April. It's the garment and upholstery weight stuff that's going on sale, so I don't know if that helps you out. Didn't think to ask her if that was her sale or a Tandy thing...might check with a couple of them in Denver pretty soon in case they're all doing it.
Also, if you ever need buckskin or buffalo hide Prairie Edge is a good source. Here's a link: http://www.prairieedge.com/ They're surprisingly reasonable on their materials, but finished products are ridiculously priced. The biggest buckskin they stock is only about 24x24 inches, no full hides or half hides, but the price is good. They're cheaper than anyone I've found for materials. You might have to call them, not sure if they sell materials online. I've had them ship materials to me before because they didn't have it when I was in the store. Really easy to deal with them.
BTW, I'm still wanting that flask. Just had some things come up and neglected to let you know. Hope you didn't think I was blowing you off. Unfortunately, a new water heater kinda trumped ordering a flask. Pretty soon though. I'll get back to ya on that.

Glad to hear that all is well, my friend. And yes- chocolate honey combs are the gods gift to the snack world! There's a local organic food store that sells them. When the honey combs aren't too dense, they melt out from inside of the chocolate coating. Mmmm... So tasty!

Thanks for the heads up on the goat skin! I have one goat hide, but I'm using it for my display, and have been loath to cut it up. I would really rather use goat as opposed to elk for the back of my targe, but you use what you have on hand. As to the buck skin, you should look up the number for the Denver Tandy. I think they still have a few. That's where I got mine. It's 26 square feet, and I got it for $68!!
As to me thinking you're blowing me off... That actually brings up something I was meaning to mention. I got a PM from another member with some very tactfully worded criticism and advice. There's no need to worry about offending or hurting my feelings. I'm pretty objective and thick skinned. I didn't feel blown off- life happens. Don't worry about offending me or making me mad or some silly thing like that. I have 2 teenage kids... I have developed the patience of Job...

Ya, just thankful everything worked this morning when I turned on the computer.
Still getting used to Windows 7, though.
MMM fresh bee juice.
Good luck with your goat hides and all.

Yeah...with teenagers in the house nothing should get to you anymore.
I'll have to call one of the Tandy's down there. 68 bucks is a really good price. I'll see it "the Boss" will order it for me. I'll be having my knee surgery right after the first of the month and will have about a week and a half where I'll need something to keep me busy. Heck, I might even do the beading on this one. I'll have the time on my hands.
