This last fall I was at the Charleston Scottish Games and saw a gent wearing the CNT Khaki Shirt with ribbons and a Navy Veteran ball cap with his kilt. While there was not a reason in the world for him not to wear it, it didn't look good to me. I wasn't upset that he was wearing those items, it was just something that I wouldn't wear at a games.

I'm a bit more comfortable with a qualification pin (in my case, either ESWS or Craftmaster) on my kilt or a jacket compared to wearing my ribbon bars or miniatures at a semi- to non-formal event.

And a parting shot to my brother Marines:
The Marines have plenty of good men. U.S. Navy Corpsmen.

To any Veteran whom I bump into, we can argue about who gets to buy based upon rank. But a dram or three will be shared!
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

    Navy Rules of Gunfighting

    1. Go to Sea

    2. Send the Marines

    3. Drink Coffee
I thought the naval version was:

    1. Go to sea.
    2. Send cruise missiles.
    3. Send one or more air groups.
    4. If a handgun is required, 400mm is preferred.
    5. NOW send the Marines.

On a serious note, I probably can speak for my fellow Marines on the site when I say this: A good Corpsman is our brother every bit as much as other Marines are. I spent nearly a decade in uniform, and our Corpsmen were never the butts of any of my jokes. But I'm not one for the rivalry (friendly or not), anyway. This thread was the first time I'd joked around like that in ages. Spent so much time with the Navy, kicked in doors with an Army unit in Ramadi, was I&I Staff for a Marine Reserve unit on Buckley AFB... I enjoy everyone really.

I've always been able to determine the age of the Marine based on that joke: the younger ones tend to get all bent outta shape and the older ones just grin and agree. I've had the opportunity over the years to train and work with all other branches and despite the pride for ones own service, hardly any quick remarks ever get made during the working times. You save them for the club, not necessarily as the jab but as a signal of pride in your own branch.

Should we ever meet, we need to share a dram or three! Semper Fi, Marine!

Almost forgot, Keep yer mitts offa my lifer juice mug!

Just my 2 bits for the OP:

I served 8 years as a SWCC, so I RARELY wore a dress uniform or even tropical whites for that matter, so my opinion is a bit skewed. Also, in the past I've said that I'm not a fan of wearing minis or medals unless in full uniform while on duty and UOD requires. My opinion on that may be changing.

    1) Ditch the dixie cup--or as we referred to them "Targets"
    2) Tropical white shirt with a Edzell tartan kilt would look great in my opinion.
    3) I'd leave the gaiters and boots behind and wear matching hose and nice shined leather shoes
    4) It was your service and your desire to honor those others who have served. Let that guide you.

    Thanks for your service, shipmate!

Ahhh..but then there was the OTHER Navy for us SWCCs etc:

    1. Drop, run, crawl or catch a ride on a VERY fast boat--but do it all VERY quietly.
    2. Remember that no one knows you're there.
    3. You're not there. Never were.
    4. Be swift, be silent, be perfect.
    5. When your issued canvass watch band melts off your wrist from the heat and humidity, you're just getting 'climatized'.
    6. Only wounded men get to fire a second round.
    7. Get picked up, late and off course.
    8. Send in the Marines
    9. Debrief, shower and head to chow.
    10. Drink coffee.
    11. Listen to Marines tell you what 'combat' is like

Just good-natured interservice ribbing fellas. No harm meant or taken.

Don't ask me to second-guess you---you were there, I wasn't. (Well actually, I was at my "there" but I wasn't at your "there".)

If you wear a woven (as distinguished from a knitted) shirt, or a sport coat, by all means wear your miniature service medals also---it sets a good example and invites respect for what they mean.

That sounds great, but would not be at all practical for the triple digit weather and a 1.5 mile march in the sun.

I know people have been through worse, in fact I have... but i dont have to anymore

As a former Blue Shirt, this sounds cool to me. Wish I still had that stuff (wish I could still fit in it too.) I'm at Scarborough Fair all the time as well (as a patron, I'm from DFW as well) and I'll be in my Edzell for this year's parade.
