The 22ounce BW from WPG is on my short list for the colder months around here. Among solid colors I expect Lovat blue and claret will work great.
A lot hinges on the waist up wardrobe I think. In black tie with a formal jacket I would probably go with claret, the diced, or the argyle I mentioned above.
With a casual sweater I think I would lean more towards a very light blue like ancient blue or St. Andrew's blue in a solid. Maybe oatmeal or other natural light brown.
I think bottle green or Lovat green would be tricky no matter what, but I bet it can be done and done well.
In very early springtime, around solstice or so, I bet yellow hose with blue flashes and an oatmeal or very very pale green (nice) sweater with a relatively plain black leather sporran would be smashing. Shoes are going to matter.
I am kinda thinking about bringing in bright green garter ties when I order my BW.
I think with argyle or diced as above, plus claret, very light blue and a light natural brown hose a BW watch owner could go anywhere, anytime. But I really want those bright green ties. Bright blue and bright red garter ties I already have.
OP, I am somewhat influenced by how dark the WPG (what price glory) kilt in BW is. As BW goes, there's is very very dark. If you are looking at cloth from Loch Carron or House of Edgar or Marton you are going to have a somewhat brighter pallete from which to start. And I got no idea what your skin tones are. We're pretty pale up here ;-)
