Best Argyle Hose for Black Watch Kilt
I am soliciting opinions for the best looking Argyle Hose to go with my Black Watch Kilt.
I have been doing some reading in the forums, but I'm not to sure which way to go. Some of the options viewed on-line leave a little bit to be desired.

My gut feeling is red and white diced is going to be most versatile.
I am not merely a n00b, but a rank n00b barely free of the matchy-match disease.
Those here actually talented at this stuff are going to ask what are you wearing with it from the waist up, what time of day, and where are you going.
If you are wanting to go multiple places, at different times of day just spell it out. Green and white diced could work a lot of the time too I suspect.
I bet blue, black and green argyle with a red stripe would be pretty versatile too.

I think black and red, white and red, navy and either green or white, etc diced hose would probably look best if you did not desire solid hose or custom argyles made just for the Black Watch. Personally I have nothing against the matchy matchy navy blue solid hose, but then I don't wear the Black Watch, at least yet. I still have 5 meters of the DW 18oz military weight tartan I have yet to decide what to do with.

The 22ounce BW from WPG is on my short list for the colder months around here. Among solid colors I expect Lovat blue and claret will work great.
A lot hinges on the waist up wardrobe I think. In black tie with a formal jacket I would probably go with claret, the diced, or the argyle I mentioned above.
With a casual sweater I think I would lean more towards a very light blue like ancient blue or St. Andrew's blue in a solid. Maybe oatmeal or other natural light brown.
I think bottle green or Lovat green would be tricky no matter what, but I bet it can be done and done well.
In very early springtime, around solstice or so, I bet yellow hose with blue flashes and an oatmeal or very very pale green (nice) sweater with a relatively plain black leather sporran would be smashing. Shoes are going to matter.
I am kinda thinking about bringing in bright green garter ties when I order my BW.
I think with argyle or diced as above, plus claret, very light blue and a light natural brown hose a BW watch owner could go anywhere, anytime. But I really want those bright green ties. Bright blue and bright red garter ties I already have.
OP, I am somewhat influenced by how dark the WPG (what price glory) kilt in BW is. As BW goes, there's is very very dark. If you are looking at cloth from Loch Carron or House of Edgar or Marton you are going to have a somewhat brighter pallete from which to start. And I got no idea what your skin tones are. We're pretty pale up here ;-)

Of course diced hose, either red/white or red/black, are classic and would look great with the Black Watch tartan. But if you are after a pair of Argyle hose (knit to match the tartan) then just order a pair specifically to match the Black Watch. There would not be a lot of color contrast, but as Argyle hose are typically knit to match the tartan, it is what it is.
We have stock of the diced hose in the shop now for immediate shipping:

I am not yet kilted myself, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
If I were you, I might avoid the red/black diced hose - not because they look bad, but because that's the same hose pattern worn by the Royal Regiment of Scotland with the Government 1A (Black Watch) tartan in their dressier or more formal uniforms. As has been discussed about regimental ties on this forum, there are places where this combination might be viewed as an attempt to look like something you're not. I may be all wet, but that's how it strikes me. If you decide to go that way you can be assured it will look smashing
In case you're interested, here is a link to a PDF of the Dress Regulations of the RROS: http://www.electricscotland.com/hist...nsHandBook.pdf It's interesting to scroll through.

Thanks everybody,
I see that I have some good choices to make, so I'm going to be shopping some more. I do like a couple of the diced styles for sure.
