USAKilts casual carries the MacPherson hunting, which is the tartan I've most seen worn by clan members. The kilt is about $100 and made of polyviscose (PV) which I know nothing about.
I also came here for advice when I bought my first kilt, and one of the best wool kilt deals available was the Bunett's & Struth Casual on sale at about $200. http://www.burnetts-struth.com/produ...t-on-Sale.html
Their web site has changed (simplified), and in order to see the tartan selection, you have to fill in some fake measurements and pick the heavyweight fabric, then the tartan list becomes available.
B&S have 3-4 MacPherson tartans on sale; the muted is especially lovely. They do not carry the MacPherson hunting on sale though.
and here is a link to a variety of MacPherson tartans being worn by our Creagdhubh

You get what you pay for. The B&S casual (and I suspect the USAKilt casual) on sale has no fabric cut out at the top of the pleats, and I found that the left side of the B&S apron tended to flare out a bit. I doubt anyone will notice. It will also have fewer pleats than an eight yard kilt, so will swish less. My son has my B&S casual now, and I miss it. It was a nice, light-weight kilt.
