The 78th is extremely active here in NS and as I say, the red/white diced hose is pretty much seen exclusively on them and not on civilians for everyday wear. Here in NS, I've only seen ONE instance of a civilian wearing the red and white diced and that was at a very formal event. For everyday wear, I've never seen it and that's been over 16 years of living in NS, attending many highland events and games here and in the other Maritime provinces.
I was only trying to say that if the OP were living in NS and decided to wear the red and white diced hose for everyday wear, I can guarantee that most people would ask him if he was associated with the Citadel. And sadly, if he wore the NS tartan kilt in Halifax, people might even ask if he was a doorman at the Delta.
The fellow who wore them for formal rig was spot on; unless I was reenacting a certain unit that wore them, I wouldn't wear them for everyday wear either.
