There are a number of C18trh and early C19th tartans that are predominately black or dark blue. Unfortunately they are not generally including in most/all published Dbs.

Having gone through the SRT pretty thoroughly about a year back I managed to put together an album of about 30 mostly black tartans (mostly black – not merely with black as a base colour or background).
    They are, by name:
    Allen Joy’s Fancy
    Allt Dubh
    Anzac
    Ben Dubh
    Black Shadow
    Bodog
    Bouncing Blackie
    Bute Heather Black
    Bute Heather Midnight
    Bute Heather Modern
    Bute Heather Weathered
    Callaghan
    Dark Island
    Freedom of Scotland
    Highland Park
    MacRae Special Hunting
    Moonlight Glen
    New Zealand
    Nightstalker US
    Pride of Scotland Contemporary
    Pride of Scotland Dark
    Pride of Scotland Grey
    Pride of Scotland Muted
    Pride of Scotland Platinum
    Scotland’s Lionheart
    Silver Mist
    Stewart Black
Stewart Mourning (there are two versions: one black and grey with just two white stripes; one black and white)
    The Patriot
In addition there are more than 20 black and white tartans, including one of the Stewart Mourning variations.
There are about 40 predominantly grey tartans, and more than 20 grey and black setts.
For my personal taste, I would avoid most of them because they remind me far too much of trousers.
But I am sure there are many takers.
    Regards,
    Mike

There is certainly a good deal of black in the Brown tartan, but to my eyes it is red and blue.

There are a number of black & white tartans that have been given clan names. One such is the Ogilvie (Black and White).
