The US Army kilt arrived yesterday, as the Douglas Grey fabric was not in stock and had to be ordered -- no surprise, as it's not exactly the most commonly worn Douglas tartan.
I'm happy! The fact that the kilt is unlined would have been a bit of a surprise had I not already been aware of it; however, tailored kilts originally did not have lining or support fabrics sewn in and, especially for lower yardage kilts, that seems totally dispensable.
The kilt is well-constructed, and fits exactly as it should.
The one real surprise to me is the Celtic knot embossed (a nice touch!) straps: They are the heaviest leather I have ever seen on kilt straps.
I'm going to enjoy wearing this kilt. . .and the other one once it arrives!

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase Dale. I'm thinking of getting a 5 yard 16 oz from Rocky myself. I'd love to see some pics of your US Army if you get a chance.
Thanks,
Remy

I'm on "telephone standby" to see if I'll have to report for jury duty this afternoon. Since my home is right on the way, if I do have to go in I'll shuck the work suit and don proper clothing; and I'm sure I'll be able to get someone to take a pic of me on the courthouse steps.
If I end up not having to report, I'll be wearing it this weekend and will get my girlfriend to take a shot then.

Okay, here we go, in nontraditional/casual near-summer mode:

And my original order from Rocky, in Douglas Grey heavyweight, shipped Friday and will likely be here Monday.

It did indeed arrive yesterday, and I like it as much as I hoped I would. It's 16-oz fabric, whereas the other (US Army) was only available in 13-oz. And while I prefer the heavier fabric, the 13-oz looks absolutely fine and also feels just fine with the heat wave we're having right now.

Wore the new Douglas Grey last night for the first time, at dinner following a day of martial arts training at the Marin Headlands:

I like that grey Douglas. It understated but eye-catching at the same time.
I also like that the word "grey" is spelled correctly. It just looks sad spelled as "gray".
