I vote wide. I'm a big dude so wide would look better on me. One of the reasons I don't love some modern kilts is that the front apron is to narrow. But then again I tend to lean traditional. Although I do love my flatcaps and polo shirts.

My Mk. I had a 10 inch apron, tapered out to about 12 at the hem. Mk. II will be 13 inches (about 15 at the hem).

For comparison, my tank's apron is 19 inches at the waist.

I made mine 9in on the first one, and 1ft on #2. I agree, I like it right in the gap between the choices given, though, I lean towards the smaller end of that gap in preference.

You should probably have offered the choices as a ratio to hip width. Apron width will vary not only by taste but also by the size of the person.
I do not fit in your ranges.

My first version was 8 inches, with a 34 (IIRC) inch waist.. I'm thinking I might bump it up an inch for the next version (starting next week, woo!), but I have to remeasure first..

I make my aprons so that when I am standing naturally and look down, the edge of the first small pleat falls just outside my knee. I make reverse kingussie kilts so the pleats are the same both sides.
That means when I am walking I don't have the edge of the fabric moving across my skin.

I made one of my kilts smaller by reducing the width of the aprons and it drove me to distraction to have the pleats so far around to the front. I had to make the pleats narrrower and wait until I shrank into it.

It could be that I am just sensitive but it could be worth considering if you plan to sew all the edges of the pleats - particularly if you have hairy legs - having them defluffed by the seams of your kilt - ouch!

Nearly everyone is selecting the wide option, which is what I was thinking of -- I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake.

I vote narrow, but on the upper end of that. (edit here, I went and measured again: I'm in between the two options) I like the apron to fall between the legs when sitting unaided. Also I think it is less chafing whilst walking.
However, everyone is different and has their preferences and reasons. I think the reasons are more important than the raw vote.
