    Ouch! Richard, this sort of thread really should come with a "not safe for early morning viewing" warning attached. What a terrible way to start the day, poor kilt.

    Just imagine the poor devil whose job it'll be to re-press that properly. Might as well go for the full clean/press at that point.

    Aye, that will be a big job, especially if someone wants to put the box pleats back into it! And by box pleats, I assume we are talking about military box pleats and not the style of say, Matt Newsome's box pleats?

    Correct!
    Standard box pleats tend to be much wider, Military box pleats are usually fairly narrow

    It looks like a very nice pressing job actually, just that when they went to press they turned the pleats in the other direction. And, I'm thinking that while Seaforth kilts may be box pleated, that this kilt was not, and is pleated to the white stripe instead.

    It's easy enough to re-press. Just get it damp, realign the pleats properly and press.

    If it is military box pleats ( most likely given the history) there is no reason why it couldn't have been pleated to the white stripe and box pleated, they are not mutually exclusive
