An interesting discussion at the grocery

So, I got my first kilt a few days ago, and I wore it to the local grocery store with my wife. As we are doing our shopping, a lady walks up to me and asks about my kilt, and tells me that she really likes kilted men. Thank goodness the wife was there! It turns out she is a seamstress, and that she wants to try her hand at making a kilt and was wondering if I would be willing to let her make me a kilt at no cost. Long story short, she is going to be making me a kilt out of a carhartt type material to see how it looks. I will post pics when it is done.

Did she seem knowledgeable about how kilts are traditionally made, or was she going to try figuring it out on her own?

Sounds like you stumbled into a heck of a potential deal (free kilt!!!), but I would definitely want to feel her out for how much she knows about basic kilt construction.

That is awesome! If the seamstress needs any help with the how-to of kilt construction you could direct her to "The Art of Kiltmaking" for traditional styles or the X-Kilt manual for something more modern.

Its free so let her get on with it and see what she comes up with. You have nothing to lose unless she wants your existing kilt to pull apart to see how its made.

She said she used to make kilts for her kids when they were involved with Highland dance, but she has never made one for an adult, so it may be interesting. I guess we will all see in a week or two. She only lives a few miles from my house, so I will check on her progress soon.

I picked up the kilt yesterday. I have to sew the straps on as she had no way of doing it, but it looks great! I will finish my part and post pics when I am done.
