I own two flat caps and a balmoral, the balmoral is good but I prefer flat caps because, as stated above, they go with anything and everyone looks good in them.

I wear hats infrequently (usually when I will be in the elements for an extended time.) They range from an old fedora,to a short brimmed boonie, to an old cover.

I've been wearing baseball caps. I can't say I like them very much but they keep the sun off my naked noggin and protects my eyes. I won't wear the balmoral without the kilt I imagine so I'll probably invest in a flatcap at some point.

Flatcaps seem very popular. I often wear my great grandfathers old grey flatcap. Though, I haven't been able to locate it recently...
Other than that I'll wear a black fedora, a black knit cap or even a repro wool olive drab WWII jeep cap.

Since I wear exclusively tartan kilts I think it makes a difference what hat I wear with them. Balmoral in basic black for relatively formal/semi formal occasions, flat or country caps in appropriate tartans or a complimentary color in more casual occasions. Outside I always wear a cap becasue of my balding pate. Inside depends on my mood and situation. I have a vintage diced glengarry that I have yet to find an opportunity to wear, particularly as I do not pipe and these seem relatively reserved to uniformed situations. Just ordered a couple more hats from ramscraig on ebay, custom sized, in a couple different colors of Balmorals-----jacobite blue to honor the last highlander resistence, red (I just like the red), and a Irish caubeen becasue I think its height on the peaked side is an attractive look compared to a Balmoral which tends to sag a bit more. Should have them in a few weeks. Maybe some pics to follow, if I get a chance.

My question is what type cap/hat do you wear when not kilted? I would then probably wear the style cap/hat when kilted. I would most likely not wear one with colors that clash with the kilt, but then I would do the same when not kilted.

Well I don't wear my Balmoral or Glengarry without a kilt, although in the past I did wear a dress Gordon tam as a wool winter hat for a couple years. The flat/country caps I wear out and about or golfing. Otherwise either a baseball cap or one of our team cycling caps (not helmets), again, mostly to keep the burn off my balding dome.

I wear all kinds of caps while not kilted. Mostly Flat, baseball & Duckbill. I've got 2 duckbills from Goorin Brothers that I love, and also a black Guinness flat cap. I don't wear baseball w/ kilts.
