My "great kilt' does not have anything sewn in. I fold the pleats each time that I wear it as a kilt. Right now it is folded in quarters and is keeping my legs warm on a cold and draughty night here in Boston. A little later it will be the top layer on my bed. This is after all the traditional use for the big piece of wool tartan.
