Few years ago on a cross-country trip I went considerably out of my way to make a visit to Ticonderoga and I was not disappointed. Until going there I never really understood why such a powerful fortress was in what looked like the middle of nowhere, but when you get to the ground and understand that there were no roads and all transportation was by water you can see how important it was to control the portages bertween the rivers and lakes. Very pretty country, too. I wish I could have attended your re-enactment.
