hmmm
Maybe you should change that to Hotei, and he is more related to Taosim then Buddhism. Western ethnocentrism has confused the two. Buddha was no God nor was he fat.
I hate being the "know it all guy" Sorry, being a Buddhist I take it a little more serrious
But Hotei had nothing to be ashamed of. We could all wish we could be without want and full of happiness.

I kilt shirtless around the house in the summertime, occasionally I go out the door to call for Scooby, sometimes he's not where I thought and I end up further afield than I had intended. My neighbors see me shirtless on the way to the pool, what's the difference? Most often it's the yellow kilt these days, but I went similarly in a SportKilt when that was all I owned.

Yikes!! So much body shame!!
We have the cajones to sally forth kilted but not to remove our shirts?? Boy, there's a project for Freud were he still alive....
Found another one...practical and convenient on the river. Had to be at least 110 degrees F that day.
Gotta be some more pics out there....come on, man up.

Sometimes, more often than not when in the shop forging, and covered in sweat. A shirt just adds weight when it's 130F in your work environment. I don't think I would go without shirt kilted out in public, though it has happened at a blacksmith conference once. Pretty mature audience at such gatherings though, in age and attitude both.
Part of the reason I wear the kilt is to look decent if out in public. And not wear trousers.

I've always had a bit of a formal streak... my sisters might say I had a stick... well nevermind what they say. When I was a kid, my mother would sometimes say, "Don't be such an old woman!!" So I've never been one to go shirtless or shoeless, even growing up in the southern summers. That's just me.
If I had a tattoo that amazing on my back, I'd be shirtless, too.

I've been known to hike kilted and topless from time to time. If I had a yard (darned apartment living!) I'd do my yard work topless and kilted, too.

Not for me personally, Ron, but hey, in the right circumstances and with the right crowd, who am I to be critical? And I would never say anything about a man wearing a MacLean tartan kilt!

If I went topless kilting, I would end up blinding evryone within visual range with the glare from my VERYpale skin. Of course, if I had cool body art like yours Ron, I might take the chance. After giving out lots of pairs of sunglasses first. lol

I am always up for shirtless sallys out into the yard - now that the good weather is here. Shirtless anywhere in Canada during the winter is a bad idea. (Except maybe spring skiing.) Of course, the other day my wife came out while I, clad only in my utilikilt and boots, hose scrunched down, digging holes for new shrubs, and called me her celtic god. It would have been very flattering but for the slight smirk.
